This exhibition is a project realized in collaboration between Luigi Rovati Foundation, and Isola Bisentina.
The exhibition enters into dialogue with works by contemporary artists, invited to intervene on the island for the opening of this season. The Malta dei Papi—the evocative underground structure carved into Mount Tabor, perhaps by the Etruscans for ritual purposes—hosts the delicate glass fragments by Lisa Dalfino (1987). The Monte Calvario oratory and the island’s landing point, an elegant Art Nouveau-style dock, house the alchemical sculptures of Namsal Siedlecki (1986), evoking possible connections with good-luck ritual practices. Finally, the church showcases works on paper by Alex Cecchetti (1973), which evoke the parallel realm of an underwater landscape and invite visitors to become witnesses to a memory preserved through the lake’s continuous conserving force.
At the center of the reflection is the role of water: a natural force that both destroys and preserves, a medium connecting past and present, memory and life.
The itinerary includes: the Church of Saints James and Christopher, the Dock, the Chapel of the Crucifix or Monte Calvario, and the Malta dei Papi.
