How can I reach Bisentina Island?

Bisentina Island can only be reached by boat, with departures from the piers in Capodimonte and Bolsena. When booking the guided tour, your seat on the boat will be reserved. The cost of the boat transfer must be paid directly at the pier on the day of the visit.

Do I need to book the boat separately?

No. When you book the guided tour, your seat on the boat is already guaranteed. Payment will be made at the time of boarding.

Boat fares:

  • Adults: €20
  • Children and teenagers (6–15 years): €15
  • Visitors with disabilities: €15
  • Children (0–5 years): Free
  • Groups (20 or more participants – Capodimonte departure): €18 adults / €13 children (6–15 years)
  • Groups (20 or more participants – Bolsena departure): €20 adults / €15 children (6–15 years)
Is it possible to visit the island independently?

No. Access to the island is only permitted as part of a guided group or private tour, according to the scheduled times and procedures established by the organisation.

How long does the tour last and what does it include?

The guided tour lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours and includes the island’s main points of interest:

  • the Church of Saints James and Christopher;
  • the Dockyard;
  • the Chapel of the Crucifix, also known as Monte Calvario;
  • the Church of the Rocchina;
  • the Malta dei Papi.

When booking a private tour, the itinerary and duration of the experience can be customised.

Is booking required?

Yes. Booking is mandatory and can only be completed online.

What does the ticket include?

The ticket includes the guided tour of the island. The boat transfer must be paid for separately at the departure pier.

Is the island accessible to people with reduced mobility?

The route follows natural and uneven terrain and includes sloping sections and steps carved into the rock. Due to these characteristics, parts of the itinerary are not suitable for wheelchair users or people with severe walking difficulties.

Are animals allowed?

Yes. Small pets are allowed, provided they are kept on a lead at all times.

Is swimming allowed?

No. Swimming is not permitted during the guided tour.

Are there any refreshment facilities?

No. There are no refreshment facilities on the island, and it is not possible to purchase drinks. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you.

Is it possible to organise private events?

Yes. Subject to availability and the island’s management arrangements, private, cultural or corporate events can be organised. Please contact us for further information.

What should I bring?

To make the most of your visit, we recommend bringing:

  • comfortable shoes;
  • clothing suitable for the season;
  • a hat;
  • a reusable water bottle;
  • sunscreen during the warmer months.
Does the tour take place in bad weather?

Yes. The tour also takes place in the event of rain. We recommend wearing a waterproof jacket and suitable footwear. In the event of particularly severe weather conditions, departures may be suspended or rescheduled to ensure visitors’ safety.

What is the difficulty level of the route?

According to the Italian Alpine Club, or CAI, classification, the 2025 itinerary is rated T, meaning Tourist.

The route is a circular trail approximately 1.5 km long. It is mostly flat, with an elevation change represented by approximately 35 uneven steps carved into the rock.

The route follows natural paths with varying surfaces and passes through different geological and natural environments. In wet or rainy conditions, some sections may become slippery, so suitable footwear is recommended.
